2009 Kids' Day

In Turkey, Kids' Day is celebrated on April 23s since 1935. It originated from the first gathering of Grand National Assembly on April 23, 1920, during the Turkish Independence War. On April 23, children from around the world come to Turkey. They are hosted by families who have children of a similar age. Festivities last over a week and the visiting and Turkish children spend a lot of time together. Many children, often not even speaking the same language, create lifelong friendships. Several of the events are broadcast on television, showing the children in their traditional national outfits, dancing singing and exchanging gifts.

2010 Kids' Day will be celebrated in Bur Mil Park, Shelter 3, on April 25, 2010 at 3:30 pm. Directions to the Bur Mil Park can be obtained at http://www.greensboro-nc.gov/Departments/Parks/facilities/regionalparks/burmil. Kids will present their own shows and there will be surprise gifts for kids. We want kids to remember and enjoy April 23 Kids’ Day with these activities. There will be Turkish food with barbecue. Please bring your friends who might be interested in this celebration.
