DIVAN CULTURAL CENTER is a non-profit organization dedicated to addressing the social and cultural needs of Turkish and American friends living in the Triad area. We aim to promote understanding of American and Turkish cultures, and foster integrity through cultural and educational activities. We would like to see friends getting better integrated with their local communities, and contribute to the peace, prosperity and harmony in our area. We believe getting to know each other will build bridges among our communities.
Ours is a perpetually changing world, one that has been fraught with conflict that is based more often than not on misunderstanding. Today, one of the main challenges facing the global community is to assess and renew the role of different human traditions in a spirit of harmony. Dialogue is the proven way of uncovering and honoring the truly sacred in all cultures, which would lead to tolerance and peace. Divan Cultural Center wants to contribute to this ultimate aim by means of conferences, projects, scholarships, publications, and many other activities in conformity with scientific methods and universal democratic values.
Divan Cultural Center at Triad is a branch of Divan Cultural Center at Cary. We have a vibrant and growing Turkish Community in Triad area. The total number is estimated to be around 200 people. Only a few of them are temporarily here, such as exchange students, visitors or member of other programs. Interacting with different cultural and religious groups is our main objective towards creating a better society for ourselves.
In addition, preserving and transferring Turkish Culture to the new generations is a big need as well. We have Turkish classes for the young, mostly US-born school-age children, for adults, and for anyone who is interested.
We will invite local schools, churches, and other faith groups to visit our Center for cultural interaction. From time-to-time, we will contact professionals, and local authorities, community leaders to give us lectures about certain issues of the society that we live in.
We will be enlightened to provide our experience and ideas for possible solutions. We will continue on our annual dialogue dinners, gather on important Turkish and American holidays, organize picnics, and visit community organizations around the Triad area.
We also have a cooking and craft club which brings women of diverse backgrounds to interact each other. Last but not the least, we will watch soccer games, movies, shows on TV and have fun together. Whenever you visit us you will meet a smiling face with a hot tea or coffee ready to chat with you.
